What is brass float valve
The brass float valve is composed of brass valve body, connecting rod and floating ball, which can automatically control the liquid level of the water tower or swimming pool, main function is to control the water at certain level The water level is not interfered by water pressure and is tightly opened and closed without water leakage.
How brass float valve works.
The floating ball always floats on water, and when the water surface rises, the floating ball also goes up. As the ball rises, the connecting rod also rises. The connecting rod is connected with the brass valve at the other end. When it rises to a certain position, the connecting rod supports the piston pad to close the water source. When the water level drops, the floating ball also drops, and the connecting rod drives the piston pad to open.
Applications of brass float valve
Brass float valve is generally used in water tanks, water towers, washing rooms and swimming pools, to control the water level. The brass float valve is very convenient to install and operate, forging brass valve body ensures long durability of the float valve.
How to select brass float valve
1. Confirm the functions of brass float valve
Different functions and applications require different valves, for example, water brass float valves, gas brass float valves, sanitary brass float valves, PEX brass float valves, tail brass float valves.
2. Confirm the working pressure of brass float valve
Depending on pipeline pressure needs, the brass float valves are designed with valve wall thickness and port sizes. There are low pressure ball valves, middle pressure ball valves, high press ball valves, super-high pressure ball valves. PN16 brass float valves are mainly used for domestic and plumbing applications.
3. Confirm bore size of brass float valve
There are three different types of brass float valves:
1). Full bore brass float valve offers no flow restriction, which means that when it is open, the liquid can flow freely through it. This is achieved by making the ball larger than the passage size, so that the hole can be the same size as the passage.
2). Standard bore brass float valve does not have an over-sized diameter, and as a result, the hole is one size smaller than the passageway. This creates a small amount of flow restriction as the fluid passes through.
3). Reduced bore brass float valve, on the other hand, has an smaller diameter and an even smaller hole, which creates significant flow restriction as the fluid passes through it.
4. Confirm thread type of brass float valve
Thread types differ from markets and applications: BSP threads for Europe and NPT threads for North America, also other metric threads, which you must confirm before buying brass float valves.
5. Confirm material type of brass float valve
We currently work with HPb57-3 brass float valves for most customers in Europe and Asia, CW617N brass float valves for Europe, C377700 and lead free brass for North America.
7. Confirm surface treatment of brass float valve
Rough brass color, nickel-plating, and chrome-plating are most widely used surface treatments for brass float valves. Plating helps to protect the brass valve from oxygen and look shining.
8. Confirm floating ball type of brass float valve
There are currently three optional types of floating balls: copper ball, plastic ball and stainless steel ball. The costs differ much, plastic one is most economical and more used for common use.
How to install brass float valve
1. Before installing brass float valve, clean and remove any objects from the pipes (in particular bits of sealing and metal), which could obstruct and block the valve.
2. Ensure that both connecting pipes either side of the valve (upstream and downstream) are aligned (if they are not the brass float valves may not work correctly).
3. Make sure that the two sections of the pipe (upstream and downstream) match, the brass float valve will not absorb any gaps. Any distortions in the pipes may affect the tightness of the connection, the working of the valve and can even cause a rupture.
Chemical compositions for brass float valves
1. China/Global Market
HPb57-3, HPb58-3, HPb59-1, HPb59-3 are most common materials used for brass float valves China, which are acceptable for most countries in the world, except for those customers have special requirements.
HPb57-3, also called China Normal brass, a variant of CW614N brass, is a local industry standard, with little Fe contents in composition, and lower costs than CW614N. It’s widely used as a standardized material in China and accepted by most global markets and customers.
HPb58-3, is a variant of CW617N brass and commonly used for brass float valves in China local market.
HPb59-1, has less Fe, Pb and higher price costs, it’s more used for high-quality products or market, such as brass fittings for USA market.
2. European Market
CW614N and CW617N brass materials are widely used for European brass float valves.
CW617N brass has better physical property to stand higher working pressure and temperature, more importantly the Pb percentage share is less than 2.5% and applicable for drinking water systems, good for environment and people’s health.
CW614N Brass is also popularly used because of similar compositions and lower costs, suitable for those applications without much environmental requirements.
3. USA Market
C46500 and C377700 are most widely used materials for USA brass valves.
As a requirement of AB1953 regulations, all the brass valve parts which contact the water shall have Pb content less than 0.25%, also called lead-free brass or no-lead brass, all the brass water valves for USA market, such as brass ball valves, brass gate valves, brass check valves, brass angle valves, brass float valves, have been compulsory to use lead free brass.
For those brass valves not for water use, such as brass radiator valves, heating valves, C377700, or China standard HPb59-1 brass materials are workable.
Surface treatments of brass float valves
Surface treatments provide good protection to brass float valves:
Rough color is brass float valve body sandblasted and without plating.
Electroplating (nickel-plating and chrome-plating) can enhance the corrosion resistance of brass float valves, increase hardness, prevent abrasion, improve conductivity, smoothness, heat resistance.
How we produce brass float valves
1. Brass raw materials are bought from local suppliers in forms of brass bars.
2. Brass bars are cut into smaller pieces with different sizes according to order requirements, heated with natural gas.
3. The heated brass bars are forged by forging machines, Out-comings are semi-finished rough brass float valve bodies.
4. The rough brass float valve bodies are trimmed and cut off unnecessary parts.
5. The rough brass float valve bodies are washed with sanding machines, to clean the dirty and oils during production.
6. The rough brass float valve bodies are machined by CNC machinery for threads and dimensions.
7. The machined brass float valve bodies are nickel- or chrome-plated.
8. The brass valves are ready for delivery after final finished goods quality inspection.
