Brass Valves: Working Temperature, Working Pressure And Their Relationship

In addition to considering the corrosive properties of the medium, flow characteristics, and connection form, the temperature and pressure of the medium are important parameters when choosing a brass valve.

1. Operating temperature of brass valve

The service temperature of the brass valve is determined by the material from which the brass valve is made. The service temperature of commonly used materials for brass ball valves is as follows:
The service temperature of gray cast iron brass valve is -15~250℃;
The service temperature of malleable cast iron brass valve is -15~250℃;
The operating temperature of ductile iron brass valve is -30~350℃;
The maximum operating temperature of high nickel cast iron brass valve is 400 ℃;
The operating temperature of the carbon steel brass valve is -29~450℃, and the recommended temperature is t<425℃ in the 3595-93 standard;
The maximum operating temperature of 1Cr5Mo, alloy steel brass valve is 550 ℃;
The maximum operating temperature of 12Cr1MoVA and alloy steel brass ball valves is 570℃;
1Cr18Ni9Ti, 1Cr18Ni12Mo2Ti stainless steel brass valve operating temperature is -196~600℃;
The operating temperature of copper alloy brass valve is -273~250℃;
Maximum operating temperature for plastic brass ball valves:
Nylon is 100℃;
Polychlorinated polyether is 100℃;
Polyvinyl chloride is 60℃;
Polytrifluoroethylene-60~120℃;
PTFE-180~150℃.
Rubber diaphragm valves have different operating temperatures due to different types of rubber:
Natural rubber is 60℃;
Nitrile rubber, neoprene rubber is 80 ℃;
Fluorine rubber is 200℃;
When rubber or plastic is used for brass valve lining, the temperature resistance of rubber and plastic shall prevail.
Ceramic brass ball valves are generally used in working conditions below 150°C due to their poor temperature resistance and rapid change. Recently, a super-performance ceramic brass valve has appeared, which can withstand high temperatures below 1000 °C.
Glass brass valve has poor temperature resistance and is generally used in working conditions below 90 °C.
Enamelled brass valve, the temperature resistance is limited by the material of the sealing ring, and the maximum operating temperature does not exceed 150 ℃.

2. The pressure used by the brass valve

The operating pressure of the brass valve is determined by the material from which the brass valve is made.
The maximum nominal allowable use of gray cast iron brass ball valves is 1MPa;
The maximum nominal pressure allowed for malleable iron brass ball valves is 2.5MPa;
The maximum nominal pressure allowed for ductile iron brass ball valves is 4.0MPa;
The maximum nominal pressure allowed for copper alloy brass ball valves is 2.5MPa;
The maximum nominal pressure allowed for titanium alloy brass ball valves is 2.5MPa;
The maximum nominal pressure allowed for carbon steel brass ball valves is 32MPa;
The maximum nominal pressure allowed for alloy steel brass ball valves is 300MPa;
The maximum nominal pressure allowed for stainless steel brass ball valves is 32MPa;
The maximum nominal pressure allowed for plastic brass ball valves is 0.6MPa;
The maximum nominal pressure allowed for ceramic, glass and enamel brass ball valves is 0.6MPa;
The maximum nominal pressure allowed for the FRP brass valve is 1.6MPa.

3. The relationship between brass valve temperature and pressure

Brass valve operating temperature and pressure have a certain internal relationship, and they affect each other. Among them, the temperature is the dominant factor of influence. The brass valve with a certain pressure is only suitable for a certain temperature range. The change of the temperature of the brass valve can affect the working pressure of the brass valve.

For example: the nominal pressure of a carbon steel brass valve is 10MPa, when the medium working temperature is 20℃, its maximum working pressure P20 is 10MPa; when the medium working temperature is 400℃, its maximum working pressure P40 is 5.4MPa; When the medium working temperature is 450℃, its maximum working pressure is 4.5MPa for P54.
